I never understood black people getting offended at these old caricatures. I wonder if blacks got offended back when these products were being made? Either way, they’re history – products of their own time. The “bad old days” for blacks, for sure, but I still don’t see why it’s worth getting mad about them today.
Think about old cartoons, too, and the black stereotypes in them. Now think about Bugs Bunny cartoons with Yosemite Sam and Elmer Fudd… Aren’t those 2 characters simply caricatures of inept and clueless white people?
im mexican and im tired of seen this f**king intolerance and rascism, why instead figthamong us we get together and fight against fucking skinheads and KKK, i support all movement against those S.O.A.B. we never will surrender
what the fuck is wrong with the person that made this shit i mean sierously do you think this is funny becuz it is not it is very racist and all of the people that this offends is pissin every one off

Is this an actual product from the first part of the 20th Century? It looks real enough.

I’m not 100% sure and still need to do more research, but either way I was highly offended…

Interesting.
Note the slogan? “Black soap fo’ black faces”?
I’m wondering if the “black faces” were racially black or just dirty.
Would be interesting if this was an early example of racial marketing into the black community, perhaps even by a black owned company.
Remember – many of the connotations of “nigger” that offend today did not exist back in the 1800s.
