[Life is Art]

“I think everything in life is art. What you do. How you dress. The way you love someone, and how you talk. Your smile and your personality. What you believe in and, all your dreams. The way you drink your tea. how you decorate your home. Or party. Your grocery list. The food you make. How your writing looks. And the way you feel……..Life is art.” – T.U.G.

[Afro Samurai x Wolverine]

[Afro Samurai x Wolverine]

Maybe I should start by saying that I love the idea of cross series match-ups where characters from different TV series, games, comics, books, and/or movies either face-off or collaborate. This is a drawing I did not to long ago of Afro Samurai and Wolverine in a face-to-face stare down.

I have a bunch of other ideas for face offs, match-ups and collabs which I will draw and post in the future. I hate that I let my hobby of drawing slip away, but I’ve made a promise to myself to pick it back up and never let it get pushed to the side again…

I recently set up an account at Deviant Art and will post more of my artwork there in the future…

[Last Samurai Katana]

Maybe I should start by saying that I am very pleased with my new purchase. I picked up a replica of the Last Samurai Katana used in the film. It is a fully functional blade, hand made from high carbon steel, is full-tang, and has a razor sharp blade and a meaningful engraving along the blade which reads, “Since ancient times through the present, God is with those who serve with dignity and honor”.

The level of detail on this katana is amazing and it’s engraving gives it so much more life. As soon as I came across it, I knew I had to pick it up. I’m kind of  a nerd for little things and accessories like this so I may look into picking up a few other similar pieces.

The hardwood handle is tightly wrapped with a black nylon wrap allowing for a secure grip and traditional copper is used for the tsuba and fittings. A shiny glossy finish coats the scabbard, making it a very attractive display piece.

I was able to pick this item up from Trueswords.com. They have a huge collection of items at great prices and have gotten great reviews from collectors and customers. I would definitely suggest checking out the site to anyone interested in items like this. Whether you may be looking for pieces for cosplay, fully functional blades, display pieces, or collectors items, you will have a huge selection of items to choose from.

This is my first katana/sword, so it is very special to me. I cleaned it and re-oiled it right out of the box due to the factory oil and some wood shaving residue.

And I of course did not hesitate to give it a few swings  as a test run, which ended quickly after accidentally cutting my finger and almost chopping one of the blades off of my living room ceiling fan.

Now even though I am in no way a ninja or samurai, holding this bad boy makes me feel one step closer to being a badass ninja assassin…So now…Next up on the list…….A lightsaber…??? o_O

[Sorry I'm Late...]

Maybe I should start by saying that this animation made by Tomas Mankovsky is freakin’ awesome…LoL…I don’t even want to know how long it took to fully complete this project, but regardless, the end result was well worth the effort without a doubt…The animation is very similar to the style, creativity and visuals of SONY Playstation 3′s revolutionary game LittleBigPlanet……Check out the full video below…

Maybe I should start by saying how not only cool and awesome this animation is, but also how appreciative I was of the fact that Musclebeaver featured Guybrush Threepwood, Lechuck and other characters from the classic Monkey Island series; one of my favorite and most enjoyed game series of all time (which was recently revived).

Other gaming titles and characters such as Super Mario Bros, Doom, Tomb Raider’s Lara Croft, Pong, Pac Man, and Space Invaders are featured in the animation as well. Check out the video below…

MSLBVR 2008 (c): “This animation we did was planned and animated for the prologue of a documentary. (That explains the absurd, unfinished seeming, ending. That is where the actual documentary starts…. ) The briefing was to show an evolution of computer games. The documentary itself is about different people, based here in germany, showing their everyday life, and their addiction to the same specific, famous MMORPG (massive multiplayer online role playing game):”WoW..”. Every game character in this prologue was reinterpreted, redrawn (…one pixel at a time), and animated frame by frame.

[Interview with Pharrell Williams @ Art 40 Basel 2009]

Maybe I should start by paying my respects to producer Pharrell Williams and artist Takashi Murakami for their collective genius in creating inspirational and intriguing artwork. On June 9, 2009 at Art 40 Basel, Galerie Emmanuel Perrotin presented a 6-foot  sculpture by artist Takashi Murakami, made in collaboration with the U.S. record producer and designer Pharrell Williams. The artwork is titled “The Simple Things” and features a glass-fiber, steel and acrylic head based on Murakami’s cartoon-inspired signature character Mr. Dob. Within the mouth of the being lies objects which are essentials in the everyday life of Pharrell Williams. The items include a cup cake, a can of Pepsi, a sneaker and a bottle of Johnsons baby lotion; and all objects are completely encrusted with 26’000 diamonds and gems.

In this interview with Ute Thon (Art Magazin), Pharrell Williams talks about how cooperation between himself and Takashi Murakami came about, the idea behind the sculpture, his interest in art and design, the artists and designers he admires, and his own design works.
